I love all things, Summer. When it comes to the heat, melting ice-cream, farmer markets, and varying picnics there is an endless supply of things to do. Having moved to the Centre County region three years ago, I will admit that it has taken me awhile to get out and enjoy all that Happy Valley has to offer. I have comprised a list of family fun events and venues you can try out for yourself.
Taking the #1 position- Bald Eagle State Park!
Naturally I had to include this state park as it provides ample outdoor recreational activities such as: hiking, fishing, swimming, kayaking, camping, boating, and much more. Have no boat but want to go boating? No worries, this state park offers the ability to rent. All you need to do is provide your license and take a safety course which they provide! After a day of boating or swimming you can go for a quick drive up to Twin Kiss for some delicious diner food and delectable ice cream treats.
Coming in #2 is Hally Valley Mini Golf.

This 18 hole golf course will please all ages as it challenges you and allows you to work on your short game. Tucked away on S. Atherton, after playing you can easily drive downtown within 5 minutes to enjoy many delicious local restaurants. We preferred going to The Tavern, a local favorite. Having been around since 1948, they know how to shake things up when it comes to your taste buds. Craving something sweet? Try the Raspberry entremet cake. It has wonderful coconut, raspberry, and dark chocolate flavors that will invigorate your taste buds.
Like mini golf but LOVE Golf?
Number three is a tough one as it is in Clinton County, however going there regularly because of the beautiful landscape and picturesque views, price, and food and drink selections. It deserves high praise. The Clinton County Country Club. Not a member? No worries they are open 7 days a week to the public offering 9– or 18-hole play with or without cart. Want to work on your golf swing? You can easily rent a basket of balls for the driving range for only $9. After “driving” up an appetite you can go to Haywood’s on the Green and if you are a Pittsburgh native you will love that their menu has a very own section on the food menu. You have options like a Reuben sandwich with coleslaw and french fries; pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and french fries, or even the Rothlisburger, comprised burger, sausage, coleslaw and two eggs.
#4 The last on this list is a hidden gem. If you love adventure and thrill look no further than United Paint Ball & Airsoft Park. Great for family fun, parties, and team building, this paintball park offers different packages that include gear and supplies ensuring a hassle-free experience. You can opt to battle it out in the Adventure Woods field or Pallet Town, both of which offer a memorable experience. Needing a venue for a birthday party or office outing to build teamwork? They offer party packages decently priced for parties of 8 and higher.
